On April 19th, RR Auctions in Amherst, New Hampshire is auctioning off 180 items from the Titanic, as it commemorates the 100th anniversary of the ship’s ill-fated maiden voyage and sinking on April 15, 1912.

The ship hit an iceberg eventually killing more than 1,500 of the ship’s 2,228 passengers and crew. The wreck was discovered in 1985 and the items being auctioned were recovered in a series of dives between 1987 and 2004.

One of the items being auctioned is Edward Herbert Keeping’s gold locket holding a water damaged portrait of his wife. Another poignant item is a letter written by Wallace Hartley, the band letter, on Titanic letterhead. His band is known for playing music, as the ship went down. Hartley died in the disaster but the letter was delivered to his parents, after his death. It’s expected to bring a price of $100,000 to $200,000.

Back in the day, Blocks was one of Indiana’s premier dept. stores. The fashion illustrators they hired in house (Sue’s mother included) created all their print advertising designs. This collection of artwork offers a window into the cultural history of advertising in the United States before the days of “Mad Men”

For the past 4 years, Sue has been cleaning, restoring and appraising her mother’s artwork. When completed, she will donate her mother’s artwork to the Indiana Historical Society where she knows her mother’s legacy will be kept alive. Sue’s only regret – that she hadn’t found these boxes while her mother was still alive. “I wish she could tell me about them. It would have been incredible to be able to show her these things and talk about them.”

He was a beagle. He was also lovable and sweet and part of our family.

When he died, I put his picture in a locket and engraved his name on the back. I wear that locket everyday. I keep Snoopy close to my heart, even though he is only here in spirit.

Do you have a pet you miss? Heartsmith offers a variety of lockets to memorialize your best 4-legged friend. The Doggone Locket (shown here) has the tradition of a book style locket along with a whimsical element – the dog bone on the front cover. Hand enameled and accented with small silver plated heart charm, it holds two pictures. Comes with a matching adjustable antiqued silver chain.
