About Gold Lockets
What You Need to Know About Gold Lockets
A gold locket is a very special gift to give and to receive. Gold has been a valuable and desirable precious metal for making coins, jewelry, etc. for centuries. It has been the foundation of kingdoms and has defined the world's currency system. Gold won't tarnish, rust, or corrode, and though it's very strong, it is also the most malleable of all metals.
Gold jewelry is an alloy, meaning it is mixed with other elements, usually copper or silver to create 14 karat (58.3% gold) and 18 karat (75% gold) since 24 karat (the purest form) is too soft. The color of gold is determined by the type and the percentage of the metal it is mixed with.
At Heartsmith, we run the gamut of choices in gold lockets. We offer gold plated lockets which are lockets that are made with a thin coating of real gold plated over a base metal. We also have a large collection of gold filled lockets which are lockets that have a heavy coating of real gold bonded to a base metal. In order to be classified as gold filled, the actual percentage of gold must be 1/20 of the total weight. All Heartsmith gold filled lockets are guaranteed for life.
We believe that everyone should be able to afford high-quality locket jewelry to wear as personal prayer reminders. For this reason, in addition to our fine 18 karat and platinum heart lockets, we insist on carrying only the finest examples of sterling silver and 14 karat gold heart lockets. Though we feature lockets that cost upwards of a thousand dollars, we are also proud of our impressive and beautiful heart lockets that are available at a fraction of that cost. Many of our loveliest lockets, in fact, cost less than $50.
We also have a beautiful collection of 14 karat gold lockets as well as 18 karat gold lockets in both yellow gold and white gold. Our gold lockets are made in the USA by one of the oldest locket manufacturers in the country. They offer a lifetime warranty on all their products. Heartsmith is also proud of our relationship with one of the finest hand made locket makers in the world – Charles Green & Sons. Established in 1824, it continues to be run as a family business, operating out of its original location in Birmingham, England. The attached picture is our 18 karat gold Tara Locket - hand engraved by the famous, master craftsmen of Charles Green.
Once you have received a gold locket, it is important to keep it looking beautiful. Store your gold jewelry separately in soft cloth bags or the original box to protect it from exposure to harsh daily elements. Please keep your gold jewelry away from harsh chemicals such as chlorine and cleaning fluids. When cleaning your gold jewelry, use a solution of warm water and detergent-free soap and wash the gold locket gently.
A gold locket is a precious keepsake, often handed down from generation to generation. Start a tradition in your family by purchasing a gold locket from Heartsmith.
